Sex and the City

5 out of 10

Before I begin I would like to point out 2 things.......

1. I am a die hard fan of Sex and the City (the television series)!

2. This review contains spoilers so if you don't want to know what happens stop reading NOW!

This film is a "follow-up" to the highly successful and entertaining series depicting "what happened next"!

The first 10 minutes of the film sets the story so far and introduces the characters - which I obviously acknowledge has to be done as, believe it or not, there are actually some people who never watched the series!

Firstly, there is the rather predictable story of Carrie and Big's wedding - surprise, surprise he jilts her at the alter (didn't see that one coming!)

In other news Samantha is struggling after moving to LA with Smith, Charlotte is sickeningly happy and expecting her second child with Harry and Miranda is devastated to discover that Steve has had an affair!

The main problem that I have with this film is that everything is tied up so neatly, for example, Anthony and Stanford (the GBFs) end up getting it together! There is nothing to keep you guessing and I am struggling to see how they are going to make a sequel (which apparently they are).

I would also point out that this film is 2 1/2 hours loooooonnnngggggg! I have sat and watched continuous hours of the series and never got bored! The concept of the show does not translate well onto the big screen!

If you never got into the series you haven't got a cat in hells chance of enjoying this film so don't bother... that way they wouldn't need the lame, wooden, 10 minute "introduction" at the beginning which frankly turned me off immediately!

All in all - disappointing!

Two and half hours!? And you never even mentioned the 45 minutes of adverts before the film started. Speaking to Dave, it sounded like my idea of hell.

Oh yes the 45 mins of diet coke break and perfume ads was delightful!

I cannot begin to decribe the guilt I felt for Dave having to sit through it all - it is certainly no place for a man!

Mark Kermode was right when he said that this film has a handbag where its' heart should be!
