Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence

5 out of 10 It breaks my heart to give such a low mark, but it failed to wow me. The amount of computer-rendered detail in the film was, IMHO , to its detriment. The story may have come across better with a little less artistic show-boating and fewer ‘wise’ quotes. Pity. :(

The Descent

10 9 out of 10 Much better than expected and pushed all the right (wrong?) buttons for me. However, after due consideration, it’s not good enough live alongside Nemo, Pulp Fiction and A Clockwork Orange. Nine it is, then.

Being John Malkovich

8 out of 10 I was expecting weird, but I wasn’t expecting it to be quite so funny. Laughed out loud at various points and thoroughly enjoyed it, though it waned a little towards the end.

Lost in Translation

8 out of 10 A gently funny comedy romance that worked really well, but didn’t quite have the final kick to really bowl me over. Maybe it just lacked a killer soundtrack. I’m such a music whore.

Corpse Bride

6 out of 10 After Charlie , I found myself tiring of Tim Burton, but this is far better from both him and Johnny Depp. Could have been really good, but parts of the story switched direction with little credible foundation and the ending felt under-developed. Not often you can say that—most films drag it out.
